“Where all animals come together to be cared for and loved by those who care for and love animals”
My friends and family thought I had lost my mind when I sold my house and left a successful 23-year career with Nike, Inc to launch my own business. Even my daughter Keelie, a certified veterinary technician and canine massage therapist, questioned my decision. But after 4 years of hard work and research, I achieved my dream in June 2002, by opening Noah’s Arf. Our business is a full-service pet care facility based in Portland, Oregon. We provide a safe, clean, and fun environment for pets, whether you leave them at Noah’s Arf, or have us visit your pet at home.
As an exhibit manager for Nike, I spent a lot of time traveling for business, and finding a good facility at which to leave my dog was challenging. This gave me an idea. I visited dog day cares, boarding facilities and dog washes all over the country, but I didn’t find one that had all the services under one roof as I imagined Noah’s Arf could. I sold my house, gave my car to the business, and put a lot of money into the building, A lot of people said, “Don’t you think you are getting in over your head. Why don’t you try to launch one thing at a time?” but I had a vision of what I wanted it to be. I said, “That’s not the concept “. A lot of people have day cares and kitty condos and dog washes, but they don’t have them all in one. There is nothing else in Oregon like this.
My vision turned out to be one that my customers shared. Within the first six months, Noah’s Arf had achieved it’s goal of 50 dogs a day, and 26 overnight kennels. The 7 kitty condos also keep busy. The Noah’s family currently includes 12 trained animal care specialists, Fiona the resident Yorkshire Terrier, and Julie the cat.
